Magic.

One of my students asked me today, "Is there a magic flower that makes you sneeze?"
I was a little confused about where this was coming from and just said, "No, I don't think so." Of course, one of my little big mouths had to pipe up and say, "Psssh... *aghast sigh*...there is no such thing as magic flowers...there is only such a thing as magic beans and magic seeds! Jeesh...*eye roll*!

Cinco de Mayo

Aye! Yai! Yai! Feliz Cinco de Mayo! I know it is a totally unnecessary holiday for Americans to be celebrating but it is what my team does every year and I went with it. I have quite a few kids who speak Spanish so I mainly took the opportunity to let their language shine all day. Two of my boys who hardly ever speak were so proud to help me today. I know about a kindergartner's level of Spanish but they were my go-to guys for answering questions about pinatas and sombreros. They were like rock stars! I asked them how to say words, some kids asked them how to say words, and everytime I said a word in Spanish they beamed. We went to the biblioteca, we checked out libros, we ate frijoles and queso, we counted in Spanish, and colored a flag of Mexico. Overall, it was un bueno dia.

Tuesday.

I am way too tired for it to only be Tuesday. I don't know if it was the Starbucks I had too close to bedtime which resulted in awful sleep last night. I don't know it is because we only have 31 days left of school. Today, there was just way too much crying (Taijah), way too much yelling (Jason), way too much not following directions (David), and way too much tattling (where do I start?!).

Ughhh!
Sigh!
Yawn!

I will say that at least one of my students is on a new medication...again...and she actually had an AMAZING day. No crying or melting down whatsoever! Hugs and high fives all around!!

Homework

I came across this as I was correcting homework packets. Not juice. Not jam. Judge Judy. From a kindergartener. Really?

Jump to it!

After a very rainy morning, the sun decided to come out in time for afternoon recess. Yay! A few days ago we introduced a few jump ropes to the recess festivities. We didn't teach any of the kids what to do with them, just sort of threw them in a pile and let them go at it. Go at it they did...like a pack of wild dogs trying to put together puzzles. Basically, they really wanted to tackle it but had no clue how to manuever their bodies to swing the rope and jump at the right time. It was hilarious and frustrating. Then it rained and we had no jump rope fun. Today, we busted out those ropes again and some of my little guys are determined to conquer the rope of jump...so I got involved. I took an end and gave the other end to a kid. A little girl from the other p.m. class gave it a go because she said, "I can do it! I'll show you guys!" She mastered two whole revolutions of the jump rope! Does not sound like much but she really was the most successful thus far. Here's a cute pic of my kids giving it a go.

Crap! Literally.

So my kids are at recess when I notice the next kid waiting in line for the bathroom has been waiting a while. I hear the toilet flush inside but no kid comes out. I tell the kid waiting that maybe the kid inside has an upset tummy and maybe she should go use the other classroom's bathroom. I hear the toilet flush again. I, myself, needed to use our break to use the restroom and check my mailbox in the office. As soon as I walk back into the classroom, I hear form the bathroom, "Missssusssss Wooooooool? Missssusss Woooooolllll?!!!"

No. Please. No.

I go to the bathroom door. Knock. Poke my head in. "Uh, Missus Wool, someting's wong. I keep tinking I'm done poopin' but moe just keeps coming owt. It won stop."

O! M! G!
T! M! I!
Stay calm!

So I say, "Okay, well, just keep doing what you're doing. Sit here as long as you need to. Don't worry, you'll be okay."

I run out, gasp for fresh air, and ask my team members for help. They say call his mom...NOW! I call. She says she will be right there. I go back in and check on my little pooping buddy. I ask him how he's doing, he says he thinks he may need new pants. I tell him I called his mom and that she will be here in a minute to help him out. He takes a huge sigh of relief and says, "I'm so glad my mom is coming!"

Me too, little dude, me too!
